Rest on the Flight into Egypt
One of Titian's earliest masterpieces, painted when he was in his early twenties. The Holy Family rests beneath a spreading tree in a luminous Venetian landscape. Stolen from Longleat House in 2003 and recovered undamaged in London shortly after. The painting shows the young Titian already commanding his signature warm light and atmospheric landscape.
Color Mood
Tenderly luminous. The young Titian places warm figures against a cool Venetian landscape of blue sky and lush green — a palette that balances the sacred and the natural with effortless serenity.
